This is the headline from a recent article published in the Mt Druitt- St Marys Standard about one of the local residents that we work with, Sandra Pereira. Cathy Birchall, our Housing Communities Program worker, has been working closely with Sandra and her local community in Tregear on a number of projects. One of these projects is a community garden for the seniors housing complex that Sandra lives in in Tregear.
This year, Relationships Australia, a national counselling and relationship support service, ran a competition to find the country’s most neighbourly neighbours. They did this to coincide with Neighbour Day, an annual day begun in 2003 to encourage people to be aware of and check in on their elderly neighbours. The annual day has since evolved into a celebration of what makes communities strong and vibrant.
Cathy and Sandra took out the NSW 1st prize and then went on to win the national 1st prize in the “Tell Us Your Story” competition which is about recognising local neighbourhood heroes. We are enormously proud of them both and the amazing work they do together.

At Bidwill Uniting, we consider ourselves a church-without-walls. We do not have a congregation in the traditional sense and as such, we rely on the support of the broader Uniting Church and existing congregations to continue the work that we do.
We are a small team of staff, volunteers, local residents and supporters (like you!) who work together to celebrate and promote the strengths of the community of Bidwill and Mt Druitt. We walk alongside each other, learning from one another and supporting one another to continually work towards the aspirations, hopes and dreams of the Bidwill Community.
We welcome supporters into Bidwill Uniting with open arms. If this sounds like something you would like to be a part of please get in contact with us! We would love to hear from you! The opportunities are endless and you will get back far more than you give.
