Beyond Bidwill

We are very proud of Beyond Bidwill, an amazing film made by young film maker Josh Wyatt.

The film came out of a grass-roots community development project called ‘Broadening Horizons’, led by then Youth and Children’s Pastor, Joshua Bleyerveen.

Bidwill Uniting is revitalising the Broadening Horizons project, with a focus on young women! For more information, click here.

Beyond Bidwill Synopsis
A sixteen-year-old filmmaker documents the hiking adventure of four boys through the Tasmanian wilderness. Together they undertake a surprising spiritual challenge. The journey begins in Bidwill, a neighbourhood in one of Australia’s largest public housing estates in Mt Druitt, Western Sydney. Embracing an opportunity to leave everything they know to hike for 10 days through challenging terrain, these boys find themselves unexpectedly facing their demons. Filmmaker Josh Wyatt journeys alongside the boys as a fellow-trekker, capturing the unique physical and emotional challenges that each boy experiences. The wisdom and insight they gain is truly inspiring. Take this journey with these Bidwill boys and see how they grow with every step of their pilgrimage. Their triumphs and dignity are highlighted in the face of temptation and struggle. The boys make use of their radically different surroundings to reflect on their past, their spirituality and on their future direction.
