Creativity and the arts are often viewed as a luxury for those who have the time and money to pursue them. For many people living in Bidwill, the world of ‘the arts’ can often seem out of reach. The ongoing collaborative venture, FUNPARK, has been making the arts accessible to Bidwill residents since it kicked off in 2014. The latest incarnation was a series of workshops during the April school holidays which culminated in a huge community event held at Bidwill Uniting on Saturday 23rd April.
Emceed by UNOH’s Jon Owen, about 500 people participated in the events over the course of a week and were involved in performances, art and catering during the Saturday event. The activities included are listed below. FUNPARK continues to be a wonderful collaboration to be a part of and proves that the arts don’t have to cost the earth but are simply an expression of our common humanity.
ACTIVITIES INCLUDED: Live theatre performance, The Hungry Games by Nat Rose and Chris Dunstan, Hoop-Force (Hooping), DMC CREW (Parkour), RAP4CHANGE (HipHop), Curiousworks (short fast films), MCA GENEXT (art making), Province (mural making), Annemaree Dalziel (sculpture), Mt Druitt TAFE (food making & sports games), Photobooth.
