Volunteering Roles at Bidwill Uniting

The most important thing to remember about volunteering with Bidwill Uniting is that building supportive relationships with community members is the key to all the work we do. No matter which volunteer role you choose, you will be blessed with the opportunity to get to know a diverse range of people, hear their stories and share of yourself. We guarantee that you will learn a lot along the way!

There are three main ways that you can volunteer with us:

Option 1: Helping Hand Volunteering.

Why we need it:
There is always more work to be done than there is time to do it all. This means that there are a lot of tasks that we dearly want to get to, but keep putting off because they never seem like a big enough priority. It would be a great help to the Bidwill Uniting team if some of these tasks could be shared amongst some volunteers who are keen to get in and get their hands dirty, figuratively and sometimes literally!

Advantages:
Flexible, no commitment, you decide when and what to help out with.

Would suit:
Busy people who can’t commit to a regular weekly program or task, but are looking for ways to help out when their schedule allows.

Examples:

  • Letterboxing flyers leading up to events
  • Helping out with events
  • Gardening and grounds maintenance
  • Helping out with children’s programs
  • Providing food/catering

Option 2: Skilled Volunteering

Why we need it:
We are a small team with specific skills and talents and we believe that our work could be even more effective with the inclusion of additional skill sets. There are often things that we would like to do but we simply don’t have the expertise. You may have a specific skill that you are looking to utilise within the community that matches with a skill that we are looking for. Or you may be a student looking to gain some experience in the specific skill that you are training in. Whatever it is, if you have a specific skill or talent that you would like to contribute to the Bidwill Uniting team, then we’d love to hear from you!

Advantages:
The ability to tailor your volunteer role to suit your skills, needs and interests.

Would suit:
Professionals, retirees, students, hobbyists- anyone with a specific skill or talent to share.

Examples:

  • Property Management
  • Music/ Singing/ skills
  • Social Media
  • Photography
  • Research and Policy Skills
  • Exercise/Fitness/Dance/Sport/Coaching/Health and Nutrition
  • Fundraising
  • Bus Drivers

Option 3: Get Involved in a Program

Why we need it:
Many of our programs would struggle without volunteers and some could be greatly improved with the addition of volunteers to help out, make things run more smoothly and spend more time with people. This option is for those who are drawn to a particular program or activity that we run and are keen to contribute to that program specifically. There will usually be a range of ways within each program that you can help out.

Advantages:
Programs usually operate on set days at set times, with set activities, which makes it easy for you to plan and know what you will be doing in advance.

Would suit:
People looking to commit to a discrete, set amount of time, who enjoy the predictability of a specific role and routine that they can slot into their week.

Examples:

  • Digital mentoring
  • The Creative Space- art classes
  • The Wellbeing Group- mental health support
  • Better Together- exploration of spirituality, faith, philosophy, ethics and more
  • Kids Hope Aus- mentoring a primary school aged student for one hour per week
  • After School Program- fun activities and relationship building for primary school aged children
  • Girls Group- chilled out space for activities with girls from year 5 to year 8
